Timeless Messages

Timeless Messages: The Artworks Behind the Altar at Christ King Church

The space behind the altar of Christ King Church features three stunning artworks, created by the celebrated artist Richard Gabriel, who was also a parishioner of the church. These pieces depict three significant themes: the central artwork illustrates the Last Judgment, while the two side pieces represent the parables of the Good Samaritan and the Lost Son. The artworks were created at the request of the parish's former priest, Rev. Fr. Markes Fernandes, with significant supportive involvement from the parish youth. These three artworks convey a powerful message to all who see them, as they are placed directly behind the altar, facing the congregation. They serve as a constant reminder of the Last Judgment, God's forgiving love, and the importance of loving one's neighbor. In his later years, Richard Gabriel lived in Melbourne, Australia, and during one of his visits to the church, he expressed his gratitude, saying, "I thank Jesus Christ for giving me the opportunity to craft this work of art. Preserve them for future generations." Richard Gabriel peacefully passed away in 2016 at the age of 92, leaving behind a lasting legacy at Christ King Church.

Heritage-Inspired Moonstone at the Church Entrance

The entrance of the church is adorned with a small moonstone, a rare and distinctive feature inspired by the architectural heritage of ancient Sri Lanka. While moonstones are commonly found in Buddhist temples, their presence at Christ King Church adds a special cultural touch, making it a unique symbol of the rich heritage and tradition that the church proudly embraces

The Eucharistic Chapel

The Eucharistic Chapel of Christ King Church is a cherished sanctuary, located on the left-hand side of the church, renowned for its profound sense of peace and abundant miracles it has been blessed with. It serves as a spiritual refuge where countless visitors come to encounter the presence of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament, find solace, and engage in heartfelt prayer. Inside the chapel, the Crucifixion Statue is prominently displayed alongside the Blessed Sacrament, enhancing the sacredness of the space. Constructed between 2014 and 2015, this sanctuary was brought to life under the guidance of the then parish priest, Rev. Fr. Tiron Perera, and his assistant, Rev. Fr. Thusitha Solanga Arachchi, along with the church development committee. The entrance passage showcases valuable artwork and statues, meticulously designed and crafted by Rev. Fr. Thusitha Solanga Arachchi, adding sanctity and beauty to the space. The sacred atmosphere of the sanctuary evokes a deep sense of reverence and reflection, allowing worshippers to connect more profoundly with their faith and the symbolism of Christ’s resurrection.
